From a Vision to a Legacy
Our Story
Vaughan Road Academy Gym Night was founded in 1991 and is sponsored by Oakwood Baptist Church. Today the program is run by Steve and Nadine, two passionate individuals who show up every week to foster a faith-based outlet for youth in the community. What started as a small Friday night gathering has grown into a life-changing program that has impacted hundreds of young people over the years.
Our Mission
Vaughan Road Academy Gym Night is more than just a gym program. We’re a community. We provide adn promote:
- A Safe Space: Youth of all ages can come together to have fun, build relationships, and feel supported.
- Active Healthy Lifestyle: Encourages exercise, physical health and activity through pickup basketball games.
- Inspiration and Guidance: Steve’s messages provide encouragement and spiritual insight, helping young people navigate life’s challenges.
- Community Building: The program fosters a sense of belonging and unity, bringing people together across generations.
Our Impact
Over the years, we’ve seen countless young people grow in confidence, faith, and character. Many alumni of the program credit it with helping them stay on the right path and discover their purpose. Steve and Nadine’s passion continues to drive the program forward. Rain or shine, they show up every Friday night for over 25 years, demonstrating their dedication to the youth and the community.
Steve, a respected mentor, connects deeply with the youth, sharing heartfelt wisdom and biblical inspiration each week. Nadine’s dedication and organizational skills ensure the program runs smoothly. Together, they’ve impacted hundreds, offering guidance, support, and a sense of belonging.
